The field of finance covers the economics of claims on resources. Financial economists study the valuation of these claims, the markets in which they are traded, and their use by individuals, corporations, and the society at large.
The Finance PhD provides an opportunity to work with and learn from faculty in a stimulating intellectual environment. The emphasis of the program is research, and the goal is to produce high-quality scholars and to prepare them for academic or research careers. The program provides students with training in finance and econometrics and covers corporate finance, asset pricing, and derivative securities.
Our faculty’s research is published in top finance journals, including Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. The strength of the program is the close interaction it provides between the faculty and students. The faculty work with students, offering their time, expertise, and experience to facilitate the students’ understanding of financial markets and institutions and their research. As part of this process, professors and students are expected to collaborate in joint research and publication.
We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated, passionate about finance, and good at quantitative work. Students are expected to have adequate programming skills using languages such as MATLAB, Python, or R. The PhD program involves a great deal of very hard work, and there is keen competition for admission.
